MEMBERSHIP MEETING

NOVEMBER 2, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Powerful Trends In Children’s Services For The Next 5 Years

What are the significant trends that will impact human service agencies over the next 5 years in the areas of child welfare, youth services/juvenile justice, children’s mental health and education?  How can we identify these trends, assess their impact on our particular agencies and use that information to help in strategic planning? We can predict that our services and agencies will look and function differently in 5 years. How can we use trend information as a tool to make sure that in 5 years we are delivering better services for kids and families and operating healthy and successful agencies?

The Fall Membership Meeting will encourage CCAI members to answer some of these questions and to identify the planning and strategic needs of our member agencies as we deliver and develop children’s services that will respond to the anticipated climate over the next few years.  Highlights of the day include:

Keynote Presentations

v     David Berns, Casey Family Programs

Executive Vice President of Child and Family Services

David Berns was named to the Casey executive role this July. He previously served as director of Arizona Department of Economic Security where he led a comprehensive reform of the State’s Child Welfare & Human Services programs. He also served as Director of El Paso County, Colorado, Department of Human Services and as Director of the Office of Children’s Services for Michigan’s Department of Social Services. Mr. Berns has a proven track record of leading large-scale systems and reform efforts. He will share his national perspective on the trends he is observing in children’s services.

v     Jim Purcell, New York Council of Family and

Child Care Agencies Executive Director

Jim Purcell has served as Executive Director of the New York Association for more than 6 years. He previously served in various capacities with state and local government in New York. He is also the current chair of the National Organization of State Associations for Children. Mr. Purcell will share his perspective on the trends he is observing in associations similar to CCAI and the trends his member agencies are confronting in New York.

Member Forecasting

Group discussions will encourage CCAI members to project the service climate of the future and challenge current thinking in the areas of Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice and Child Mental Health.  The discussions will help identify what CCAI members feel are the trends that will most impact Illinois care systems and identify the needs they face as agencies.

Lunch and Learn

Guest Luncheon Speaker: Ralph Martire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. Mr. Martire will present his organization’s proposals on Economics, Funding and State Fiscal Systems, including the need for an income tax increase. The CCAI Policy Committee recommended we ask Mr. Martire to address CCAI so that our agencies can hear his unique ideas and make decisions on whether to support these proposals.
