Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, a youth-care agency that is 98%
privately funded, was established in 1887. Mercy Home’s primary mission is to
provide out-of-home residential care for hurting children in serious need of
help and healing. Our milieu therapy treatment team provides focus, direction
and hope to adolescents between the ages of 11 and 20. Our children come to us
from various referral sources, including schools, churches, donors, DCFS and
friends of Mercy Home and the children themselves. In addition to the 120 youth
living in one of the 14 residential programs, Mercy Home also supports a
community based mentoring program, the Friends First program. The volunteer
program matches a trained adult mentor with an at-risk child to serve as a role
model, friend and confidant.
