VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Basic Function: Under the direction of the President and CEO, the Vice President of Program Development is responsible for identifying and developing new and financially viable programs/services that expand the mission and vision of VOA of IL. This includes: generating, evaluating and pursuing opportunities; establishing key partnerships in the community; marketing the VOA of IL vision and mission; developing business plans for new initiatives and overseeing the implementation of new programs/services. The Vice President of Program Development is also responsible for assisting the CEO in shaping the organizational culture of the organization by modeling behaviors that are consistent with and promote the mission, vision and values of the organization. This position is also accountable for working cooperatively and strategically with the entire VOA of IL leadership team to ensure responsible stewardship of agency resources and effective delivery of services and operations across the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
· Participating in the development and implementation of the agency’s strategic plan including the criteria for development and growth.
· Researching and reviewing trends in the marketplace and the general VOA service continuum to identify opportunities for growth and expansion of the VOA of IL mission and ministry.
· Identifying, evaluating, developing and pursuing partnerships, specific funding opportunities and potential business models for new program initiatives.
· Identifying, evaluating and pursuing new funding opportunities for existing services whenever possible (including opportunities for expansion of existing services).
· Identifying and maintaining information on public and private sources of funding that target existing programs and potential areas of growth.
· Developing and maintaining relationships with all existing and potential funding sources and partners which includes staying abreast of funding priorities, opportunities, requirements, etc.
· Providing assistance to program staff in preparing applications for renewal or expansion of funding, etc.
· Coordinating the completion of all funding applications which includes understanding the full application cycle/process, overseeing the work of grant writers, compiling application information, completing the grant writing when necessary, etc.
· Reviewing successful and unsuccessful program development efforts (applications, grants, etc.) to refine and improve the agency’s approach and strategy for growth and development. Developing implementation plans for all new initiatives (staff resources, budget, space needs, community partners, etc).
· Overseeing the development and implementation of new initiatives which may include coordinating the construction of new space, recruiting staff, developing marketing strategies, etc.
· Monitoring the financial performance of program development activities and ensuring that activities stay within budgeted parameters and / or developing contingency plans in advance of budget over runs.
· Monitoring implementation activities to ensure compliance with budget targets and developing contingency plans when necessary.
· Exercising responsible stewardship of agency resources at all times by carefully monitoring spending patterns, minimizing financial exposure, etc.
· Providing ongoing supervision to direct reports in accordance with agency policies and organizational values.
· Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with the VOA of IL Board of Directors which includes attending Board and Committee Meetings as requested by the CEO.
· Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with staff in other affiliates as well as the National Office which includes sharing information openly and eagerly, participating in meetings, conference calls, committees, etc.
· Participating in community meetings, task forces, etc. as needed and requested.
· Participating in all quality improvement activities for VOA of IL as needed.
· Participating in all agency marketing and fundraising activities as needed. Serving as a positive ambassador of the agency and its mission at all times.
· Completing other duties as assigned by the CEO to advance the mission of the agency.
Qualifications:
Position requires a
bachelor’s degree (but a master’s degree is preferred) with at least 10 years of
professional experience which includes a proven track record for successful
project and/or program development and management.
Strong oral and written
communication skills are required as well as exceptional interpersonal skills.
A general understanding of financial planning principles and budgeting is necessary with advanced financial management experience preferred.
Salary:
$70,000 - $80,000/Year
POSITION DESCRIPTION
COMMUNITY/EXTERNAL RELATIONS COORDINATOR
Basic Function: Under the direction of the President and CEO or his/her designee, the Community/External Relations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and managing all activities, events and initiatives involving and/or targeted to the general community and/or external stakeholders. Generally, this includes marketing, public relations, volunteer recruitment/management, event planning and some fundraising. This is a full-time, exempt position.
Position Responsibilities:
· Coordinating and managing all marketing and PR activities including those produced by outside vendors.
· Developing and coordinating all volunteer recruitment activities as well as managing existing volunteers.
· Coordinating and managing the Major League Baseball Player’s Trust Action Teams.
· Coordinating and directing the agency’s annual Operation Back Pack campaign.
· Coordinating and managing the Scholastic Book program.
· Assisting with any and all agency-sponsored fundraising events.
· Coordinating the local Direct Mail Program for the affiliate (administered by the National office).
· Managing the local donor/constituent database which includes handling donor acknowledgements, etc.
· Generating all press releases and coordinating any media relations.
Qualifications:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of professional experience in marketing, event planning and/or community relations. The position also requires very strong writing skills, excellent communication skills, proven project management skills and an ability to work well independently. Creativity, enhanced computer skills and highly refined “people skills” are a must.
Salary:
$30,000 - $40,000
