ASSOCIATE
DIRECTOR
An exciting opportunity to work to improve juvenile
justice and youth services in Illinois is now available with the Child Care
Association of Illinois. We seek a newly created position of Associate Director
that will be responsible for:
- Coordinating
information, examining trends, and providing advocacy in the Juvenile
Justice and Youth Issues arena
- Assisting
CCAI members develop expertise in serving populations involved in various
state level, county and local juvenile justice sectors
- Working
within a new JJ system emerging in the state of Illinois.
- Analyzing
state and federal legislation and policies related to Juvenile Justice and
Youth Issues
- Working
on specialty issues connected with juvenile populations including sex
offender policies, disproportionate minority confinement, juvenile court
issues and youth development programming
- Tracking
a broad range of issues pertaining to Youth, including the youth service
system in Illinois and issues of older adolescents in the care of, or at
risk of entering the child welfare and mental health systems.
The Assistant Director position serves as a key member of
a CCAI team and will share responsibility for helping CCAI achieve its mission
and strategic goals across a broad range of children’s services issues. This
includes a primary focus on advocacy, policy development, legislative tracking,
and brokering member information in the areas of child welfare, child mental
health, education, and nonprofit management.
Position Requirements:
- Masters
Degree in Human Service field preferred
-or-
BA Degree in Human Service field
with at least 3 years juvenile justice
experience
- Proven
experience and expertise in Juvenile Justice and Youth arena
- Social
service program experiences that reflect the needs of member agencies
- Ability
to analyze policy and legislation and its impact on children and provider
agencies
- Ability
to advocate with officials, legislators and the public
- Strong
written and oral communication skills
- A
flexible approach to schedule and travel, including statewide travel and
the need for participating in administrative activities in the Chicago
area and participating in legislative activities in Springfield. A Springfield office is available for
support services. CCAI will work
with the right candidate to set up a home office location that maximizes
the opportunity for completing work given the travel and schedule demands.
